One of my dearest pals had a birthday recently and assembled a group of us in our nation’s capital for a few of her favorite things. I packed the pins and patches I got her from Adorn the Hunter, loaded up on neutral separates, drove up with a little Oddisee radio and a Bud Light Straberry-a-Rita I found in my fridge, and toasted this marvelous specimen of a woman for the evening.
I don’t know if I’ve properly introduced Megan here, but I should. We met through this here blog coming up on 7.5 years ago, kindred bloggy voices in the flotsam of it all, right before the bubble burst. Those were the days! It wasn’t until this last August that we met in person when she moved here to Richmond, and, well you know how it goes—like we’d always known each other.
Megan is definitely among the smartest and most hysterical people I know (and a real writer, not a hack like me). But I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that one of my guiltiest Megan pleasures is showing up to meet her and seeing what she’s wearing. No one dresses like Megan. No one. Plus, I love her blog. So go read it.
Drinks at the POV rooftop bar at the W Hotel:
This was my second Shake Shack visit (first here) and it did not disappoint. “I just love this kind of food,” Megan said, and I couldn’t agree more. I know you guys all thought I was making the Shack Stack up (burger with deep fried, cheese-stuffed mushroom patty on top), but I wasn’t, and your visible order envy was a moment of pure pride for me. Why are these burgers so perfectly sized? And the Shack red wine complemented it perfectly. Heh.
The POV bar on the rooftop at the W Hotel is a pretty special place, too. It was a stop on the Tour du Megan favorites I plan on repeating—and not just because I didn’t get to see any “real live hookers” this time, but mostly because all the other views were mad beautiful.
Pretty glad I haven’t taken for granted that DC is in my back yard. Sometimes you have to just be ok with re-sticking the same pins on the map for awhile, like squeezing the last drops out of a good thing.
